Setup a Second Wireless Router on Your Home Network

Ways to set up the second router

When it comes to setting up the router, it is important to place it near the Windows PC or the other computer that is used for the first configuration.   Of course, both the wired and the wireless routers are ideal configured from the computer which is connected through the Ethernet cable. Later, you can move the router to the permanent location.

  • You have to plug one end of the cable into the new router’s port. Then, plug the other end into any of the free port on the first router.
  • In fact, home wireless routers can be connected to the Ethernet cable on the wired routers. It is better to set up the second router in the client mode for utilizing its full routing facilities.
  • You should also change the Wi-Fi channel settings on the router for getting the best range of the signals.
  • Of course, the home network routers may have default IP address settings that are depending upon their model. However, these default IP settings of the second router may not need any changes until it is configured.
  • You have to check the IP address of the second router and change it, when it is needed to ensure whether it is in the current address range without conflicting the other network.
  • It is also better to set the DHCP address range to the second router to fit.

Most of the routers, including Linksys and D Link have this IP address in default as IPV4 address. In fact, this address is set by the manufacturer of the particular model in the factory. Of course, you can change it later.
