3 Reasons Why Internet is Changing Modern Entertainment

Even though some tend to underestimate the importance of entertainment, it is one of the key pillars of our society. Some of the greatest art pieces weren’t made to create an impact on the world or convey a message, but to be performed, listened to or read for entertainment of the masses. Imagine what our world would be like without music, literature or cinematography. Today, however, our approach to them is rapidly changing due to the existence of the internet. Not only has this 21st century global phenomenon changed our interests, but also the nature of modern entertainment. Here are the three reasons why.

internet of things

1. Immediate Access to Unlimited Content

In the past, if you wanted to watch a movie you had to wait until it was on TV or rent a VHS. Even if you used the latter method, there were several restrictions. For example, you were allowed to hold the cassette for a limited amount of time. Also, what if you decided to watch a movie at 3 AM? Today, with the existence of Netflix and similar streaming services, all you need to do is click several times and there you have it. If, after a while, you find the movie you are watching to be below your expectations, you can just close it and watch something else. That simple.

A similar thing goes for music, as well. Just two decades ago, you had to buy a tape/vinyl or tune in on MTV in order to listen to some music. But the worst thing about this wasn’t the inconvenience, it was the lack of choice. The internet gives a you full control of choice what genre of music you listen to. While this has made album purchases rarer, live shows have more visitors than ever before. All you need is a good Foxtel broadband plan and you have an unlimited access to unlimited content at all times.

2. It is Easier to Find Things You like

Another huge reason why entertainment is more efficient in the 21st century is because it is easier for people to find something they like. Sites like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes have some must-watch suggestions for all genres and even go as far as to offer you titles similar to those you are looking for. The same goes for the recommended section on YouTube and online music players. This makes it easier for you to find the things you like. Additionally, social media also does a great job of promoting new content, making it less obscure to general public. This kind of peer recommendation is always highly valued and it seldom fails.

3. Entertainment on the Move

Finally, according to one statistic, by next year, there will be almost 4.77 billion mobile users in the world. Seeing how mobile phones today are more powerful than some computers were just a few years ago, this opens up a whole world of possibilities. Entertainment apps and platforms for mobile phones and tablets are getting more numerous by the hour. Getting bored on your one-hour long bus trip to work? Why not watch the latest episode of your favorite TV show?

Conclusion:

From all of this, it is more than clear that the internet has greatly revolutionized modern entertainment. Still, all of these changes have a positive outcome since they provide an average user with a better quality of service and more diversity.
